Made up of rapper J-Ax (Alessandro Aleotti) and producer DJ Jad (Luca Perrini), the duo ARTICOLO 31 was one of the most influential groups on the hip-hop scene in our country. Initially, their sound is typical of the golden age of rap, with freestyle rhymes and sampled beats and choruses, but from a uniquely Italian perspective. Over time, the duo broadened its sound by incorporating elements of funk, reggae, rock, and other styles. In this way, they move away from purist hip-hop and reach a more mainstream audience. Their 1993 debut album, "Strade di Città", is considered one of the first hip-hop albums in Italy.
After its publication, the duo helped found the collective Spaghetti Funk in 1994. In that year they also released "Messa di Vespiri", which represents their breakthrough for the general public. The duo's success continues with increasingly pop albums such as Cosi Com'è, Nessuno, and Perchè Si, which feature an appearance by old-school legend Kurtis Blow.
After "Domani Smetto" of 2002, "Italiano Medio" of 2003, as well as the live album "La Riconquista del Forum" of 2004, ARTICOLO 31 are back on stage in 2018 with 10 event dates at the Fabrique and with a summer tour in 2019 to celebrate 25 years of career, returning to excite with old and new successes.
In 2022 they announced their participation in the 73rd edition of the Sanremo Festival 2023 with the song "Un bel viaggio".
